Noises problem
1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse Manual 100, 00 miles

There is a loud rattling that, it just started, and is coming from where the timing belt is encased. The belt still feels tight it doesn't give at all. Is this the timing belt? If not what else would make that rattle.

First --I'd stop driving it until I checked it out. There are other stuff there though (alternator. Compressor. )

But if you have determined that it is coming from the timing belt area -- there are pulleys in theire that help tension and align the belt. They spin at very high RPMS and I'm told thay typically wear out at 100K or so. When they do, they let the belt get crooked and then it starts wearing and tearing.

And you know what happens when the timing belt tears up.

A 1995 with only 100k -- sweet, those were great cars. Be sure and check your oil.
