1999 Mercury Sable Starting

Sometimes starts and othertimes won't, if I use
starting fluid it starts then shuts down after the fuel burns off. Then other times I give starting fluide and
it will start and run find like nothing wrong. I can drive
and no problem soon as I stop and turn off the car,
then come back to start it, won't start. Do you have
any sugestions to what might cause this.

I want you to try this: the next time it does not start, rather than using starter fluid, push down on the accelerator pedal and see if it starts while holding it down. If it does, your problem is an IAC (Idle Air Control) valve. If it does not start by doing this, you may have a concern with the fuel delivery system and you would need to perform other tests. Try this and make sure you post your findings, as these posts help others in the future with similar concerns.
