Electrical problem
1999 Mercury Sable 4 cyl Automatic 150000 miles

sometimes everything on car is dead except for headlights/ battery ground was not connected/ reconnected to block / after a while and sometimes playing with relay switches under hood car will start. Not sure of engine size/ no book and engine has no markings just 4 plugs. Doesnt matter if car was just driven or sat for days. Also how can I find engine size?>

It sounds like you're losing voltage to the Power Distrubution Center. That's where all the relays and fuses are. There may be a large single wire from the battery to a post on the side of the relay box. Check that connection. Also check the battery connections, themselves.

You can determine the engine size by looking at the VIN #. The 8th digit will represent the engine.
