1998 Mercury Sable Trannsmission just stop

I just pulled up in my drive way and now when I go out to start it up. It will not go in reverse forward nothing I changed the filter in the trannsmission but still same problem

Whatcolor was old fluid? Smeel burnt? Is linkage hooked up? Will car roll in neutral?When in gear does it seem like neutral or like parking brake on?

It was brownish the tran gave no indicatin that it was goin out It will roll in neutral and linking is hook up

Need pressure test to tell what happened but expect a major repair. Maybe the EPC solenoid stuck not allowing line pressure.

That is similar to mine. It did same thing. The transmission had to be rebuilt due a wear problem that was corrected in later models. Cost $2400.
