2001 Mercury Marquis Running out of gas

Hello I have a 01 grand marquis and the problem is that the car ran out of gas one day awhile back and the gauge said it had a quarter tank left so we put gas in it and it ran fine, now today the same thing happened but the gauge said it had a half of a tank left. It ran very good no problems but this is the second time this has happened so I dont know if it is the float in the tank or the sending unit fuel pump can someone please help

i just dont want to start taking stuff off the car thank you

Check the fuel pressure if its within specs-could be the fuel filter/intank pick-up sock or the fuel pump

Get a repair manual and fuel pressure tester and hook it up at the fuel rail test port

Thank you, see I drove it today and it runs perfect so I think I am gonna try and replace the fuel filter first I think if it was the fuel pump it wouldnt start at all right?
