1989 Mercury Cougar Idles Very High

The engine is a Fuel-Injected 3.8L. When I start the car it idles like its going 40mph sitting still. If you shift it into drive it jumped like you stomped on the gas. I don't even try to shift it into gear anymore for fear of ruining my transmission. What causes can I look for.

Clean your throttle body out and check the pcv valve for plugs and a cracked hose. Also check the egr valve.

If thosea are good unplug the iAC if it fixes the idle then the IAC is bad.
