1977 Other Mercedes Benz Models starting Problem

I have a 240D mercedez but it wont start unless I tow it. After towing it, it will start easily but about 15 minutes later it wont start again unless I tow it. It has a practically brand new battery and all the glow plugs are working. Would it start any at all if my problem was the diesel pump? Have any idea what could be my problem?

Hi there,

First thing is to check the voltage at the glow plugs to make sure they are working. Next is a compression test. Diesels are a compression ignition engine so low comps will be a problem, is the starter turning the motor over fast enough, and is the fuel lift pump leaking as this has been a problem on these cars, as is faulty injector pumps.
