Hello everyone! I have recently bought a Megane 2 model from 2005 from a friend. The problem with the car is that its automatic hard roof is not working. The case is that it used to work before, but, after the battery was dead for a while, and got replaced, for some reason the roof has stopped working. When I press the roof button, the ‘beep’ comes and then some ‘click’ sound from boot, but nothing is moving. Then a roof defect message comes to the speedometer screen. In addition to this, the rear windows are also not working. Neither from central button, nor from the individual buttons. I have checked it in a “service laptop” for error codes. There were three error codes related to the roof. 1) solenoid valve is not functioning. 2) control unit is not functioning. 3) roof is off the track. But to be honest none of them make sense to me. Please could you give me some advice about what can be the reason for that? Thanks a lot for any advice in advance.

It sounds like the roof needs to be reprogrammed but I would try to do a system hard reboot.

Here is a guide to help you:

Here is the information on how to reprogram the top:

Reprogramming the automatic hard roof of a 2005 Renault Megane typically involves a sequence of actions that resets the roof's control system. However, the exact procedure can vary based on the specific model and configuration of your car. Here are general steps that are often used for convertible roof reprogramming, but please consult your vehicle's manual or a professional for precise instructions:

Consult the Owner's Manual: Your first step should be to check the owner's manual for the specific procedure for your Megane. The manual often contains detailed instructions for reprogramming or recalibrating convertible roofs.

Battery Check: Ensure the car's battery is fully charged and in good condition, as a low battery can interfere with the reprogramming process.

Initialization Procedure: Many vehicles have a specific sequence of actions to initialize the reprogramming. This can include actions like:

Starting the engine or turning the ignition to the "on" position.
Holding down the roof control button in a specific position for a certain duration.
Cycling the roof through its full open and close process several times.
Diagnostic Tool: For some models, a diagnostic tool might be required to reset or reprogram the roof system. This is usually done at a dealership or by a qualified mechanic with the appropriate equipment.

Check for Obstructions: Make sure there are no obstructions in the roof mechanism and that it is clean and well-lubricated.

Please upload pictures or videos of the problem so we can see what's going on.
