Car has been running great not problems except a low fuel light comes on when idling despite full tank. Check engine light came on. Car-X gave me no codes but said I needed new walker converter, a new upstream and downstream sensor and a new fuel pump. This was just after some other maintenance

I have trusted them with this car for many years and they have replaced the converter four times.

What I need to know is:
1. Is the sporadic low fuel light caused by failures of the aforementioned parts?
2. If not what is causing the low fuel light?
3. Has Car-X been taking me for a ride? They want $560.00 for the new converter not including labor.

I am heading over to Autozone to get the actual codes hoping that will shed some light on the real problem.

Okay, the only code I got is P0420. Is it more likely that I need a new convertor or oxygen sensor. I wonder if its not just an electrical issue since I have the crazy light issue and no increase in fuel consumption.

Let's read possible solutions in this link.

http://www.obd-codes.com/p0420

Now that you got the code, Just for giggles, let's disconnect the battery for ten minutes or so, hook it back up and see if the fuel light disappears.

Find another reputable local shop for other estimates.
