My car recently got switch over to green coolant from dexcool by my mechanic. I noticed my coolant level was low so I topped it off with Peak green 50/50. I filled it up a little too full but I've heard that's okay to do? When I started the car the check engine light immediately came on. I turned off the car to look at the coolant I bought it's green 50/50 but it recommended GM models 1998 and earlier. Is this the problem? What should I do? What's causing the light to be on? Thanks I'm freaking out about this

Dexcool was takin out by my mechanic and they put in green 50/50. Then I put in green 50/50 cause of low fluid but the jug said only for use in cars GM 1998 and earlier just to clarify

Scan for codes as it may not be anything to do with coolant. Green is ok just won't last as long as dex cool is a 5yr change cycle and green is a 2yr.

Thank you. Someone told me it's likely that the coolant resivore overflow sensor could be the problem and it could cause check engine lights too. Is that true? Also would too much coolant cause check engine light? Thanks so much.

I don't think the light in reservoir would set an engine code it might say low coolant Overfilling won't hurt it if not a lot. It may even blow out on ground after extended running but nothing to worry about. Auto parts scan for free so when you get code they will tell you what it is.
