My mazda pick-upbroke the timing belt. It's a 2.2, manual trans.I'm wodering if these are the kinds of engines that the valves bend and mess up, or is replacing the timing belt just good enough.

MAZDA Interference engines:

1984-85 2.0L 626
1988-92 2.2L 626 MX6
1989-93 2.2L Pickup
1988-95 3.0L 929 MPV

Put the engine's no.1 piston on its compression stroke/TDC and line the timing marks then put the belt on. No check for resistance by turning the crankshaft pulley 720degs.
