I noticed recently that when starting out in each gear and accelerating the engine bogs and stutters untill it reaches a higher RPM. I have replaced the fuel filter and it started to run better but is back even worse. I just started pulling spark plug wires and noticed the number one wire covered in oil and oil halfway up the plug.

The oil on the spark plug wire may cause a errant spark to occur. The oil is probably coming from a leaking valve cover gasket. Did you pull the plugs out and look at them? If so, did you check the plug gap? How about the air filter? A dirty air filter can cause your condition also.

After cleaning the plug wire and plug off and then re-inserting them the engine seemed to run much better.

The oil will probably leak on the wire again. Keep an eye on it, and/or try to find and repair the leak.
