1996 Mazda 626 Gas Tank

1996 Mazda 626 4 cyl Automatic 147000 miles

So my car is always telling me that i'm empty on gas but when I take it to the gas station the pump doesn't let me buy any gas. The people at the full service station tell me my tank is full. Is this something that I can fix on my own? If not how much should this cost me at a mechanic?

Hi 96Mazda,

It should be a faulty sending unit located in the fuel tank.

It has been a long time since I last had contact with this model so I am unable to verify if there is a service hole under the rear seats.

You should test the gauge first. Sorry My costing is not relevant to where you reside.
