May be oxygen sensor, engine light came on

Just had complete harness and gauge panel removed and replaced due to dash fire every thing in and under dash completely destroyed. It was returned yesterday, took it for test drive and engine light came on. Took it back to the mechanic he ran a scan and believes it may be the oxygen sensor. Should this had been caught due to the original problem or is this a totally new problem having nothing to do with the wiring fire problem?

Could be either one. No real way to tell. If the light was off it may be a new code or it may be due to the fire causing issues in other places due to shorting and voltage going to places it normally does not.
