What to know if it is okay or possible for me to get a used ignition one from another Ford Explorer same model and make from junkyard and switch the ignition to where I can use a different key.

Well, you can do that but then you will still need to have those keys programmed into the truck to make it work and that isn't a DIY process if you have no working keys. They are not interchangeable that way because the keys only contain a small RFID tag that is read by the transponder ring around the cylinder, then the key is read by the security system and if it's a valid key for that vehicle it works. The reason it's that way is to prevent someone from stealing the vehicle and just swapping in a replacement cylinder and keys and having a running vehicle.
In your case the cheapest route would likely be a mobile locksmith. They can take the VIN number from your truck and contact the factory to get the key code and make you new keys and program those into the system. The dealer can do the same thing but usually you would need to get the vehicle to them for this for the programming. With these options both methods will erase the old keys out of the system so they will no longer work. However having new keys made also means that you don't need to change out any other lock cylinders so they work with the replacement keys.
