I drove to the store I noticed the temperature gauge raised all the way to 260, I got to Walmart and shut it off it was steaming and coolant was pouring out kind of in the middle of engine but little to the right, but could not tell where. So I got three gallons of distilled water and put it in I made it home with no leakage or lose of coolant. The guy I got it from said he would have to put a gallons of water in a week at least. What is going on? It is a 1985 Chevrolet C20 with a Vortec 350. Please help.

You will need to find where the leak is. It sounds like either a freeze plug or the water pump. The easiest way to find it would be to borrow a coolant system pressure tester from a local parts store, then pump it up to 14 psi and see if that is enough to push out coolant. You need to be sure the system is full of water/coolant first though, any air in the system will compress and may not make it leak. Check the water pump first, if you grab the fan and it can move in any direction other than rotate the bearing is bad and it needs replacement.
