The first thing I need is to verify Fuse 42 is TAIL or PANEL circuit (it should be in your fuse box lid label). Next, I would check the trailer wiring connector which are famous for shorting out. Then turn the headlight switch on running lights only to see if the fuse blows, if so I would start buy removing the bulbs to check the sockets. They can overheat and melt causing the short.
