I have a 2001, Kia Rio that wont start. The car shut off at red light. Had it towed home. Turned key, only got clicking from starter and lights dimmed. Changed battery. That did not help. Changed starter. It tried to turn over and stopped. What could be the problem? Help!

I would check the battery just to make sure you have 12 volts, then check the hot wire on the starter solenoid with someone turning the key should be 12 v there also

did the engine make any noise or anything before it died?

Let me lnow jim

My wife had the car that day and don't recall any noise. Just to add this. I just removed the spark plugs to inspect. Plugs '3' and '4' looks as if the pistons took a wack at them. Do you think this could be part of the problem? I will also check the voltage, if I can find my volt meter.

If the spark plugs have been impacted dont worry about checking the battery or starter, it sound like you may have broken a timing belt, let me know

thanks

Sounds like the timing belt did break, also
2 things caught my attention
1. Turned key, only got clicking from starter, and lights dimmed.
2. It tried to turn over and stopped.

Might be a liitle more than a timing belt now,
take it to a mechanic you know you can trust, and have them look at it.
