My cav 1998 2.2L 5speed manual does not run, only cranks.I replaced CPS and ICM but still the same, and no communication with OBD-2 scanner.I've decided to replaced the PCM. After replacing with a used PCM, the car now start but dies after 2 sec. No anti-theft indication, though the bulb is ok. Tried relearn method and also by-pass resistor method.I replaced the fuel filter before the first problem. All fuses and relays are ok. Ignition switch/lock cylinder was found ok also. Checked vacuum lines for MAP and found good. Serial data wire to PCM from Instrument Panel Cluster is also good. What might be the problem. Please help.I'm getting crazy. Dealer/Service centers here in Saudi Arabia are not accepting to repair it since they are below 2000 year model. You're expertise and advise are my only hope. Thank u and more power.

Most pcm's have to be programmed to car so if you still have old one put it back in. Then check fuses and relays under hood for fuel pump and the one's I've included. In pic. Check fuel pressure with a gauge check coolant sensor for resistance. Should be 2238 ohms at 86 degrees lower if hotter like 177 at 212. Fuel pressure 41-47 psi at rail

I've checked the Coolant sensor resistance, it is ok.I can not find any access valve in the fuel rail to connect fuel pressure gauge, so I really don't know how to get the fuel pressure. My old PCM was confirmed bad, 5v ref voltage is not constant on some sensors plus it can not start the engine, it only cranks. My question is, can I bypass the fuel relay control side and start the engine without harm to PCM or other component? My reason for this, is if the engine runs continuous, the problem is within the fuel delivery ie. Fuel filter or pump. If it runs and dies after few seconds, then the problem is not the fuel. Please advise. Thank you for your suggestion Hmac300.

If you bypass what you want then the car will run like crap because you aren't getting signals to sensors and depending on what sensor it is maynot run at all. This shold have been programmed to your car to beginwith when it ws replaced. This may be a security issue so if you try a different key the car may start as i'm not sure this is the diode type ornot. You can also try resetting your security with instruction in pic.

Thanks again Hmac300.I don't mean to by pass and run my car permanently, it's only for troubleshooting purposes. My car is equipped with GM passlock and I've tried resetting before with no success. BTW can it be a security problem even I don't see anti-theft indication light flashing or lighted anytime during starting / running except during test bulb? My ignition key has no chip.

Ya but it should be scanned for anti theft, which I thin it should anyhow so you can get the thing running. I have no further suggestions.
