Engine Mechanical problem
1989 Jeep Wrangler 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Automatic

I bought a 1989 Jeep Wrangler YJ 4x4. The previous owner removed the manual transmission and replaced it with an automatic out of a 2002 Jeep. Needless to say, the speedometer does not work since the newer transmission uses an eletronic pick up for the speedometer. What can I do? Is there an adapter or do I have to but a new electronic speedometer? If so, where do I find one at a reasonable price and what else will I have to install to get it to work?

There is not a conversion device that I know of that can change from an electrical to mechanical guage. More than likely the only conversion would be mechanical to electrical. You have two other options if you can not find such a device. You can just change out the speedometer with an aftermarket. There are an enormous number to choose from and you might find one that fits closesly to the dash speedometer. The other option is to remove the output shaft housing and install one for a mechanical guage. This would require you to install a gear and a ported housing for the mechanical guage; however, I do not know of this conversion either. Check Quadratec if they have a solution for you.
