Stalls after three seconds after I start every time

Every time I start my car it will stall after about three seconds I am wondering if I get a new key with a chip in it can I program the key at home with only having the one key?

It sounds like the key you have may be faulty so it will not allow you to program a new key as you need one working key. A locksmith or the dealer should be able to get things straightened out.
