What is the proper method of replacing the coolint in a 4.7 engine owners guide states that if done improperly it will damage engine. There telling me it is a different method than just draining and installing new anti freeze

If you take your time, it is an easy job, if you are not careful, it can be a pain. Remove the radiator cap to vent the system, and open the drain plug on the bottom of the radiator. When the coolant is done draining, close the drain plug, and refill the radiator. Leave the cap off, start the engine, as the engine warms up, the coolant level will raise up a little and then start to go down. After it goes down, top it off and put the cap back on. You should be good to go.
