This is my wifes car, and about a week ago she started having problems with it shuttering when accelerating, and at a stop when in gear. When this happened I found that it was a quart of oil below the add line, and then the check engine light came on.
so far it has had a long over due oil change, replaced the air filter and spark plugs and reset the check engine light. It was running fine for me and fine when I picked her up from work. But, today she called me saying its happening again. It seems to me that the check engine "mode" is causing the symptoms.
right now I'm going to get a new fuel filter and I am trying to find any sensors at the store but no one sells anything for this car yet.
thank you very much for your time, brandon

Hello,

There are a few reasons why you will have hesitation during acceleration.
It could be due to a clogged fuel filter, vacuum leak, weak fuel pump, faulty mass air flow sensor, worn spark plug. It can also be due to a clogged catalytic converter.

Take a look at this helpful guide:

As you mentioned the check engine light is illuminated. So, a good first step would be to scan the vehicle and retrieve the error code(s). This can help with the diagnostics.

Let me know what code(s) that you find.

Thank you.
