I own a 1998 jeep grand cherokee laredo. Its a 4.0 with a straight 6 cyl. Earlier this week I was driving and suddenly it started to run rough for a second and then shut off. After 2 or 3 tries it started right up and drove off. It has done this a couple times since.

Hello,

Ok, is your engine light on?

If not it is possible that your Fuel Pump is starting to Fail. And it would help if you are able to hook up a fuel pressure tester and monitor the pressure to see what happens just before it stalls.

No. My engine light is not on, and I do not own a tester. The problem is that it stalls randomly. Right now I let it run to see if it would and it ran for almost 45 minutes. And yesterday it stalled 1 minute after I started it and put it in gear. My mechanic is closed til monday. I wanted to take it to un a diagnostic on it.

Here is something else to check.

If you can, remove the Distributor Cap and take a look at the inside at the eletrodes. If they look corroded clean them and see what happens. If you don't have any more problems then I would change the cap and rotor.
