Transmission 96 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I am having Transmission problems in my 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee (2 wd) with a V6 4.0 Ltr.
and I need to know what transmission is in it and what years are compatable?

Also I have been seeing that there are 2 different transmissions the 41TE and the 42LE Can anyone tell me the difference in the 2 if any?

I have no way of knowing. I call a salvage yard and they have a direct parts exchange which will tell you what will and will not work. Hopefully you have an American tranny some were French and imposible to find.
