2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 4x4. My engine light came on and when it was hooked to a computer it said that my transmission speed sensor is malfunctioning. My car is not shifting properly and makes a very pronounced ticking sound when you accelerate. I am wondering if replacing the speed sensor is a costly repair?

I think that one has two speed sensors. The Vehicle speed sensor in side or tranny. Easy to replace. And am output speed sensor on the tail shaft area (rear) or trans.

THe sound you mentioned worries me more than the code. Jeep transmissions can do some funky things, one of the worst being mess up internally.

You could be in for tranny problems.

Good luck.
