Paint chips in oil pan

I have a 2001 Grand cherokee which had been experiencing low oil pressure and the dealer could not find the problem(they tried new oil pump and new oil pressure sending unit) so the aftermarket warranty said they wouldn't fix it until the engine stopped running. Well the car has now died. The warranty company is now claiming that this lack of oil pressure was caused by paint peeling inside the oil pan and is therfore not covered. Is this even possibly, is the interior of the oil pan painted, and if so would its peeling cause the oil pressure to drop and the engine to fail. The car had its oil and filter changed every 3-4 thousand miles.

Thanks

Yes, some of them are painted inside, but I have never seen it chip off. Even if it was, when they replaced the oil pump, they would have seen the chips in the pick-up. Was a manual oil pressure gauge ever installed to verify pressure?
