Jeep won't start

I have a 1998 Jeep Cherokee Clasic. It has a 4.0 L straight 6 engine and is 4WD and has 150,000 miles. When I turn the key to start it, nothing happens. The lights on the console work and all the indicators light up. But the engine does not turn over nor does the starter activate. The battery is good and it has a new starter. This has been happening for a while, when I would start the Jeep and drive it a short distance turn it off and then try to start it again, it would do nothing. After a wait of around 5 minutes or so it would start. Now it has failed to start altogether. I have been told there is some sort of "safety switch" that is somehow part of the alarm system that is at fault but I have had it in the shop three times trying to fix this and so far no one has been able to solve the problem. Now it won't start at all. Does anyone know what this is or has heard of other Jeeps doing this?

Could be a couple things, starting with the starter relay. If there is any kind of gunk or oil built up between the starter and where it's mounted. The cables themselves. Let me know if any of this helps.

Just had the same problem with my 94 wrangler. Turned out to be loose connection on starter. Was unable to repair or replace the solenoid. Had to replace the starter. Works fine now, cost about $100 after core return to auto shop.
