Engine shuts off while driving

98 Jeep Cherokee 4L 5speed engine shuts off. No warning. Cranks but will not start. Re-starts after cools down. Mechanics at dealer cannot find problem.

I had this same problem years ago, and not with a Jeep.
The problem was with the wiring to the starter. It seems that when the wiring got "warm" it would expand and thus loose its connection. All the mechanic did was replace the positive wire with a thicker gauge and I never had the problem again.

I had this problem too but also not with a jeep they replaced wires and every sensor they could find but could not find the problem so I sold the car for parts and the guy who bought it found water on the computer he just dryed it off and he hasn't had a problen since

I have the same jeep. I had a problem like you described, and it turned out to be a faulty fuel pump not sending enough fuel to the engine. Replaced fuel pump and everything worked fine. $800 I think.

This is after replacing a crankshaft postion sensor, that didn't fix the problem.

If you pay 800. For a fuel pump, your getting soaked!
