2001 Jeep Cherokee over heating

My car will start to over heat if idling to long, once it reaches out it will say check all gages and if it doesn't cool down the coolant will explode out of the over flow tank. It will cool down once I start driving again though.

Hi eppswd. Welcome to the forum. Do you have an electric radiator fan, and is it turning on? It should turn on at 210 degrees. If you can find the two-wire temperature sensor near the thermostat housing, at the engine end of the upper radiator hose, unplug it while the engine is running. That should make the Engine Computer turn on the fan so you can tell if it is working.
