I can't figure out what is causing my 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee to turn off? I had a new battery installed last week because the jeep wouldn't start one morning. This week it wouldn't start again. This time I had the light under the hood disconnected b/c it had a short and was not turning off and I had the battery terminals replaced. Last night while driving the key symbol with a line through it came up on the dashboard. Shortly after this the truck basically turned off but all the lights and music stayed on. I coasted to a stop put the truck in park and started it again. The same thing happened 5 minutes later. Does anyone know what is going on with my jeep?

Sounds like an issue with the anti theft not seeing your key. Could be an issue with the key or the sensor in the ignition switch. Is it an original key or a duplicate? Also be sure there are no other magnets (mobil speed pass. Etc) on the key ring that can affect it as well.

Just started. At first car would not run. After many tries, it let me start car and run but, now antitheft light stays on?

Original keys, no magnetic devices around in car.

Other solutions?

Thanks in advance,
Lee

Could be a problem with the SKIM (Sentry Key Immobilizer Module) If it let you start the car, the anti-theft isnt working. Best bet would be to find a shop that has a scan tool capable of communication with the Body Controller and the SKIM module

Msustarkville, were you able to resolve your no-start problem? I am having the identical symptoms with my '99 GC. Using original chipped keys, having intermittent stalls, and 2 second starts.
