1999 Jeep Cherokee Cracked engine?

I was leaking coolant and the dealership told me I had a slight crack in my engine and it wasn't worth repairing. I took it for a second opinion and this new guy said he had been doing this for 27 years and saw no crack and replaced my water pump. Problem seems to be solved - runs like a charm for a month now - on both the expressway and regular roads. Question is: if I really do have a crack, would it have shown new symptoms by now? I am going on a 2 hour road trip and want to be assured it is safe to drive. Thanks.

Problem seems to be solved - runs like a charm for a month now - on both the expressway and regular roads-if there's any serious problem with the engine I don't think it will last that long-why not
