1998 Jeep Cherokee Won't start

Hello. About a month ago I noticed my jeep was having a rough time driving at speeds lower than 40 mph. I would get complete engine power loss and if I pressed the gas pedal slightly more the rpm's would bounce up and down from say 1300-1800 repeatedly until I pushed the pedal down further and got it to downshift. Yesterday while driving the engine completely shut off and would not start back up. I recently replaced the TPS. I'm thinking it's probably the crankshaft sensor but I'm looking for some confirmation on my theory. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Have you checked fuel pump pressure? Also, have you checked the IAC?

I cleaned out the air intake. Have not checked the IAC or fuel pressure. How would I go about doing that?

Here is a how to for checking fuel pressure. You will need a gauge, but most parts stores will lend or rent one.

As far as the IAC, if you disconnect it while the engine is running, it should stall. If there is no change, it isn't working.

Thanks for the helpful tips I'll check that out tonight. Do you don't think it has anything to do with the crankshaft sensor?

It could be; however, it should set a code.
