Electrical problem
1997 Jeep Cherokee

Last night, I tried to turn my lights on. The two turn signal lights and the brights light, lighted up on the dash. If I turn the lights off the turn signals and the high beam lights go out but the signals do not appear to work.

Hi Cantrell35,

Thank you for the donation.

Problem seems to be a bad ground for the meter cluster turn signal lights. Check the ground connection near the headlamp switch.

When problems occurred, were the exterior turn signal lights showing?

The turn signals still work as long as the headlights are tuned off even though they dont blink on the dash correctly. Parking lights front and back also work. This all started after the interior dome light has been inadvertantly left on overnight. The battery did not go dead but I drove about 15 miles shut the car off and when I restarted it this is how it was.

When there is a poor ground, using the headlight would affect other lights and from what you described, it is either the ground near the headlamp switch or at fender side shield near the PCM.

I would suggest checking those out.

Been runnig grounds down for 2 days and finally got it. I got yuor email and went back to the beginning. When I checked the headlamp plug it was hot on all 3 prongs, so I knew I was feeding hot to the ground side. I back tracked from there and after removing the air cleaner box found another connector plug I hadn't seen before. Unplugedf it, plugged it back in and all is good. I did take it back apart again and clean the contacts of the corrosion etc. Seems to be fixed though at this point. Thanks for the help
