My Cherokee shows excellent oil pressure. But after a 30 mile trip on the highway. The oil pressure drops to near Nil at idle? Either a lifter will chatter, or a knock can be heard lower down in the engine. Oil Pump. Or worse.'Main Bearings'? Also. How do you change the Lift Gate Air Cylinders. I pried the old ones off. They have to be 'Beat On'? Or is there a trick to it?

Ok lets take it one problem at a time. First the oil pressure. If it is getting that low then you have a combination of oil pump and cam bearing problems if the oil pressure is normal till it warms up. Now what I would do to buy you some time is put a quart of Lucas oil stabilzer in and you will buy time so you can put money aside to rebuild or replace the engine. On the lift gate supports if you would include a pic of yours so I can see what type of connections you have.

If you look you will see a little keeper that in the old one in the lower pic. Swing the clip out and then pull the clip out and it should pull off the ball socket. Let me know how it goes. If you don't have luck with that then I will find a diagram to better explain.

I feel stupid now ! I saw the lil clips. Just thought they were snap rings or something.(Working on it in the dark last night !) I did wreck one of them on the New Ones. So I just used one of the Old Ones. Thanks for the help. Great Site. And I will continue to be a contributor ! Replacing those on your own. 'Not recommended'. Those gates are darn heavy to hold on your head ! Thanks again Racefan.(How do you think Danica will do against the 'Big Boys' this weekend?) :O)
Oh. A pair of them locally. Over $100. Got these on E-bay for $23. ! Thanks again.

You are welcome, and yes that door is heavy. I think Danica will do good, she is a competive racer in indi but this car is heavier too se we will see. I am also glad that Mustang and other rear wheel drive and 2 door cars are coming to nascar. If you never been racing let me tell you it is great, I recomend a racing school near you.
