2005 Jaguar XJ8 hood/bonnet

Our hood is stuck on the drivers side. The pax side opens ok. We have the car up on a jack and the wheel well cover off. Some one on line said to stick a 10inch flat head screwdriver into a rectangular hole and the latch should pop. The cable inside by the drivers knee won't pull and seems to be bound. Are we on the right track and what is next

HAve someone pull the release while someone else raps on the hood on the sticking side. This often releases a sticking latch.

Try to access the cable with anything the you can reach it with to pull or push it to activate the latch.
