I have a jaguar xj6 1993 model when the engine is idling it keeps revving up to around 1000 rpm and then down again. The vcm shows fault code 46 and 47 which is the idle speed control valve but I have read that when this fails the engine stalls not revs up. I have just replaced the air flow sensor because I was getting a fault code 12 on the vcm which relates to this. Can you help, thanks

46 is for coil 1 , 47 is for coil 2

Not necessarily. Another simple test to perform is to disconnect the electrical connector to the idle air control valve. If there is no change in idle, the IAC valve is bad.

I would also check for vacuum leak. Usually, vacuum leak will render the engine with erratic idle, similar to your description.
