1998 Isuzu Rodeo Question 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Automatic 170K miles

OK you guys! I fixed my car with out your help. There are 2 drain plugs @ bottom of Trans. Pan.
I opened both and drained off 3 QT of ugly brown fluid. I mixed up 3 QT of fresh DEX III with a bottle of Lucas Trans. Fix added. My son pumped in the mix
with a niffty (LARKIN) tranfer pump I found while I held the nozzel tight against the high port. Plug was replaced and problem solved. Before very rough shifting and no OD. Now, drives like new. Total cost was $28. Next time my son comes home I will drop the pan & replace the filter as I now know I can add fluid. I should change my log-in to "NO GUTS NO GLORY" and I should get my donation back as I did this only on my 40 years experience of working on cars.

Sorry you didnt get a reply to your question, If you donate after you post your question it wont go to the donor list, thus you get lumped in with everybody else. What you figured out is exactly correct, but you need to warm it up and remove the highest plug (closest to trans case) fluid should just roll out when level is correct. Once again I apologize and will forward your link to Mike

Great job figuring out how to pump the tranny fluid in. Saving that kind of money makes a big difference in keeping the cost of maintenance down especially if you have 6 cars :)

We will be glad to refund your donation. We hope we can help you next time you have a car repair question.
