Irratic idle and acceleration

Truck will not idle without foot on gas. Will shut off when put in gear. Replaced fuel filter, fuel pump, all spark, coil wires tight. Cleaned carburetor, no apparent vacuum leaks. After I did this, truck ran normally for a trip then later when I started up again truck would not stay on without help from accelerator. Then got worse and would shut off even with help from accelerator. Almost like it was flooded.

Hi,

When you say you cleaned the carburetor, can you give details about how you did this? If you have not rebuild the carburetor, I would suggest starting there. Completely take it apart and replace seals and gaskets and then put it back together. I suspect you have a leak inside the carburetor. I have experienced exactly what you are describing and it is always the carburetor.

Clearly vacuum leaks can cause the similar issue but since you have eliminated that, I would think the carburetor needs a refresh. Looks like most parts stores carry a kit for not too much money.
