It started with an erratic idle. Even stalled a few times. Shifting feels like it's slightly slipping without uphill climb or need to shift gears even on level ground. Check engine light came on, DTC P1762. MIL clears itself every 50-100 miles but came back 5-6 times already. When it's on, that's the only time I feel the other symptoms.
No OD light/issues. Transmission fluid is clean and at optimal level. No speedometer issues. Would really appreciate some guidance besides "Change your transmission." Thanks!

Good afternoon,

This could be either mechanical or electrical. The fact that the codes go inactive tells me it may be a bad connection at the harness going into the transmission. check that connector for oil in the connector. If there is, the internal harness is no good.

I would also drop the pan and change the fluid and filter. While you are there, check all the connectors on the solenoids.

Do not dismiss the transmission needs replacing. That may be a real possibility.

Meaning the electrical connector? I did disconnect that, it looked good. The MIL went off again 60-70 miles after it was plugged back in. Doing a transmission service is above my pay-grade and I live so far in the boonies (no local mechanics) my nearest town is Boonville, CA. But can I ask you how a transmission on its way out improves in performance from time to time?

When the ECM tests the components and it fails the test 3 times in a row, the light comes on and the ECM puts the transmission in a default mode. While all this is going on, the ECM is still reading the components. When it passes one of the tests, the ECM looks at the live data again and turns out the light until the next time it fails the test 3 times again.

That is the strategy the ECM uses.
