With #3 plug wire disconnected the engine starts and runs. When I connect it - the engine will not start. Spark tester indicated a spark. It has a spark even when tester is not grounded. No indications of damage or carbon tracking on distributor. Changed plug and wire for grins - no change.

It sounds like the ignition coil is grounding the system out when connected, replace the ignition coil and retry, please get back to me so we can continue.

It was the dist. Cap - fires right up. I cleaned the old cap and it had no visible damage or carbon tracking. I thought I had eliminated that possibility. K.I.S.S. RIGHT?
