The engine will turn over but there is no spark. also, this truck was in the hands of someone with very little experience and they kind of hacked things up. Where do I start to determine the power source to the coil and distributor?

The pink wire at the distributor and ignition coil should be hot with battery voltage (twelve volts) from the ignition switch when the key is on both run and start. the ignition switch is fed from the battery along the red wire going into the ignition switch.

Most likely suspects are the ignition module or pick-up coils.
Power to both comes in on the pink wire, the module is fed through the coil.
