1999 Hyundai Elantra

I have a 1999 Hyundai Elantra, My car recently starting over hearting. So I first started out by replaceing the Thermostat. Now iam working on the water pump. What all do you need to remove off the water pump? Does the timing belt have to come off? If so how do I do so? And what type of tools am I gonna need.
