2003 Hyundai Elantra engine light plus power

When I am driving some times the engine light will come on and all the power in the car will go off for a split second and then turn back on and the engine light will go off. Then proceed to do this every 30 seconds ruffly. What is the issue with the car

Take the car to a nationally recognized parts store and have them scan the computer for codes. Most will do it for free, so there is no money out of pocket.
