This is my first car and I am having some problems with it. It is a used Hyundai Elantra GT with 79000 miles on it. I have only taken it on 2 drives over 40 miles and each time around that distance it starts sputtering and losing power. After pulling over to the side of the road and waiting 20 minutes or so each time, the car started up and drove fine. The first time the check engine light did not come on, but the second time it did. We went to Shucks and did a engine diagnostic test and the codes P0705 ( Transmission range sensor circuit malfunction - PRNDL input - ) and P1166 ( Heated oxygen sensor 1, bank 1, at control limit ) came up. What can I do myself to find out and fix this problem before going to a mechanic? I am new to cars but pretty handy so I hope I can do something myself first. Any help will be appreciated. Eazy.

There's several things you can do yourself, but it would be easier if you had your own diagnostic scanner and probes and volt meter. 1 st of all you need to find out what exactly your bank-1 sensor is up too, because it 1 of the components that control fuel delivery. If it's switch from lean to rich like it is supposed to there's no need to search wires for intermittent faults onr breaks in continuity. Then I would run sun octane boost or fuel ctreatment. Then clean the contacts on your electrical connects on the tranny sensor before I go father. Start here and go from there. Remember it's a patience thing when diagnosing problems. Also scan the computer for tsb's dealing w/ your particular issue.
