I have a 1998 Hyundai Elantra that I have replaced the timing belt on my friend claims when it broke down that it continued to run till he shut it off but the timing belt was shredded at the crank. Now it won't start pop misfire nothing it just turns over. Ive checked fuel/fire all good. I'm guessing valves or ECU maybe?

Hi there,

There is no way that it would run until it was turned off, if the belt fails the engine will stop instantaneously, you have bent valves in the head this is an interference type engine, the head must be removed.
