1998 Hyundai Elantra Automatic 160000 miles

my car broke down today. I was driving when the check engine light came on and the car slowly came to a stop, and just won't accelerate. The rpm gauge has been jumping too. Could it be the water pump?

Hi there,

This will not be a water pump problem, you will need to get a scan done to rear the set fault code as indicated by the MIL, this will give us a better understanding of what the problem is, start here and report the fault code for more information.
