Engine Performance problem
1997 Hyundai Elantra 4 cyl Automatic 108, 00 miles

Everytime I try to go up a hill from a stopped position, my car either stalls out or takes forever to gain speed, it also takes a while to pick up speed from a regular stopped position but doesn't stall. If I have more then one person or any weight in my car while going up a hill the car also loses power. What can this be?

Hi Dawn Marie,

If the check engine warning is not showing any error, get an tune up done.

Thanks for your reply, it is very helpful. I did have the check engine light on and then proceeded to have a tune up done but since then the mechanic said it was fine- it is not fine, it runs exactly the same as it did before we had the tune up done. I have to drive this car from Mexico to Ohio- a very long way on my own and I want to be certain it runs appropriately. Is there anything else that could be causing this that I can relate to the mechanic here? Sincerely, Dawn Marie

Hi Dawn Marie,

If the check light is showing, then you need to get the problem solved.

If your mechanic says it is ok with the check light on, then you need to change mechanic.
