Hello,

I've begun having issues with my vehicle in the last two weeks. It started with a check engine light (code P1196) and has progressed to randomly showing the Hybrid System Warning light. When the light comes on (during start up) the car runs extremely rough and then shuts off. If you re-start the car it will still show the light but it can be driven in B. However, the battery charging indicator is pointing straight down as if the battery isn't charging at all, but the kw needle shows ready and running. Let it sit for 10-minutes and it restarts with no issues - the HSW light is gone and the car drives perfectly fine. It's done this randomly three or four times and then goes away. Possible battery issue maybe? I've never owned a hybrid before and have no idea where to look.

Hello, I'm Danny.

This issue could be caused by multiple issues. I've attached below a diagnostic flow chart for the causes of code P1196 that your car is exhibiting. It also mentions a possible fuel pressure issue so here is a tutorial showing how to test fuel pressure:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-check-fuel-system-pressure-and-regulator

I've attached a picture below of the fuel pressure specification for your vehicle. Please get back to us after using these diagnostic procedures and let us know what you find and we'll go from there. Hope this helps and thanks for using 2CarPros.

Fuel pressure is good. It showed up once after my initial post and I shut the car down, let it sit for a few minutes and tried again. The warning light cleared, check engine light cleared and it has been running fine ever since.

Hello again.

Hopefully the problem was just temporary. Let us know if the code returns. Thanks again for using 2CarPros and we hope you will use our site again in the future when needed.
