My car's defrost wasn't blowing and I noticed that my front and floor panels are stuck open when I turn on the heat. The temperature can still change between hot and cold. I suspect it is the mode actuator specifically. Either that or something got stuck in there somewhere. I think I might have an idea of how to replace it, but I am not entirely sure on the exact steps or how to check if it is the problem.

The description sounds like the mode actuator. It is on the left side of the HVAC case. It is pretty much in line with the steering column and attached to the case. To get to it you need to drop the steering column down and that gives you access to the actuator. If you have the heated steering wheel option you will find the control module for it bolted in place over the mode actuator. I do know of folks who can get their hand up in the gap between the column and can get the actuator out that way, but it is very tight.
